PRESS RELEASE

 

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to complete the term of a Water Resources Advisory Committee (WRAC) position representing Commissioner District 2 (Oak Harbor) which will run until May 17, 2010.  There is also a position open representing Commissioner District 1 (South/Central Whidbey) which will run until May 17, 2012. Applicants must reside within the area they are representing.

 

In addition, three other positions on the WRAC have expired and need to be filled for a full four years – one position in each of the Commissioner Districts.  District 1 is Camano Island/North Whidbey, District 2 is Oak Harbor and District 3 is South/Central Whidbey.

 

The Board of County Commissioners appoints WRAC members for four year terms, which may be renewed by mutual agreement.    The WRAC monitors water resources in Island County and recommends to the Board of County Commissioners management and improvements of existing plans and programs, coordinating efforts with other water resource management activities in the county.  The WRAC consists of twelve voting citizen members, four from each of the County Commissioner Districts and representatives of the various water resource interests: groundwater, stormwater, non-point planning, watershed management and salmon recovery. 

 

The Water Resources Advisory Committee meets the first Thursday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Meetings are typically held at the Taylor Road Fire Station or Camano Island Senior Center
